Last January, Senior Manager Georgia Townsend passed her last exam and has officially sent off her last assignment for the CILEX Level 6 Qualification in Law and Practice.

We found the chance to speak with her to find out more details.
Standing for Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, CILEX is the second largest legal professional body in the UK, offering multiple levels of qualifications. CILEX has become a well-recognised and sustainable alternative to the traditional law degree. Where it differs is that candidates can experience a more flexible and hands-on experience. The Legal Executives that qualify have already specialised in their desire area with three years of experience. This makes them an excellent and trustworthy choice to join companies like us, and those that reach the title of CILEX lawyer have just the same rights of audience.
Gaining popularity in recent years, they are well known for having complex exams that have extra secure safeguards in place to ensure fairness. A CILEX membership is required to take the exams, but a student membership isn’t the only one on offer. As someone progresses in their career, they can apply for higher grades of membership from CILEX Fellow to CILEX Associate Prosecutor.
Georgia didn't start out her career with a degree and had to start with the Level 3 Qualification which required her to sit eight exams and complete two assignments. She's now close to completing the Level 6 Qualification which is on par with a degree. This requires four exams, two assignments and 20 hours of legal work a week. However, this works for her as she's always a busy bee at the office!
We're happy to say that Georgia has passed the final exam. Results are in August but after this she must complete one year of legal work. Typically, this requires three years but due to her position she'll only require one. Alongside this, Georgia must build a portfolio to demonstrate the work she has been doing.
Formerly interested in child development and psychology, Georgia built herself up in a completely different path but has been thriving in her current job. Starting out at the company scanning over a decade's worth of paperwork, she eventually began work as an associate. From there she continued to work hard, eventually managing multiple teams and last April, promoted to Senior Manager.
She may not be stopping here however, with plenty of further options ahead. There’s an additional exam she can take to become a lawyer and Chartered Legal Executive. Alternatively, Georgia has also been considering CLC (Council for Licensed Conveyancers) Qualifications for Conveyancing and Probate.
One thing she learned and emphasised to us was that "Persistence is key", which we’re sure many of you can agree with.
For now, however, she's most looking forward to five months off from studying to catch up on reading!
